Shrimp Boat in the Distance

Picture was taken at Crescent Beach, Fl.  I wanted to get a picture of the shrimp boat, but it was too far out for my camera,but at least I was able to at least get aview of it in the picture.

The Bridge of Lions under renovation

This picture was taken in 2008 while we were on vacation in St Augustine, Fl.  They have since completed the renovations, but I have heard and read that they have been having difficulties since it was completed.  this is unfortunate as I have always liked the Bridge and was glad to hear that they had decided to renovate instead of replace.

Moon on Display

Was taken on the morning of 9/22/10. There was a full moon out and I kept tryong to get a picture of it, but nothing turned out the way I would have liked it. As I was driving into town I noticed the moon hanging down the middle of the street, between the street lights, so I decided to try and get a picture of that because I liked the looks of it. It did not come out exactly the way I wanted, but I thought it was a fair shot. Feel free to leave any comments good or bad.

In Rememberance of 9/11

Picture was taken the morning of 9/11/2010. The flag is hanging off of the ladder of one of the fire trucks at the main fire station in Enid, OK. I will post a few more pictures of the flag at a later date.
I did some modification to the picture, but wanted to add the dedication instead of just having a plain picture.

Mystery Lady

As I was walking to the beach and trying to get some pictures of the sun coming up, I saw this young lady on the beach and she appeared to be reading.  I decided to try and get some pictures of the sunrise and the water and to try to include the lady in as well.  Picture did not come out quite like I wanted, but in some ways I think it came out better.  I do not know who she is, but I wish her the best.

The Great Cross

The Cross weighs 70 tons and consists of 200 stainless steel panels in various sizes.  The loftiest sections of the Cross contain 1.6 feet by 10 feet panels 3/16 inches thick, while 4 feet by 10 feet and 5/16 inch thick panels cover the foundational sector.  To prevent potential damage from hurricane force winds, workers solidified the lower 65 feet of the Great Cross by tightly filling the inside with concrete.  At night, lights mounted from the ground provide illumination of the Great Cross.  The base of the Cross is made of granite slabs.  Several of the slabs have names inscribed as memorials from family or other loved ones.

Alligator Farm Trainer

While at the Alligator Farm, we caught one of the shows and we all three enjoyed it, even though I believe it was the hottest day of our stay in the area.  I do not remember the name of the lady doing the show, but I was impressed by her.  She put on a good show and at times appeared to have worked her way into a corner, but was able to manuever out of a jam.  I'll post some more pictures of this later and they may give you a better idea of what I am referring to.

Birds of the Alligator Farm

While on vacation in St Augustine, I decided to take the kids to the Alligator Farm.  It had been almost 30 years since I last went.  We walked through the swamp area and I was able to get a few shots of the birds in that area. I will post more pictures at a later date.

The Great Cross

The great cross was erected at the direction of Archbishop Joseph P. Hurley, then Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine.  His Excellency Casimiro Morcillo, Archbishop of Madrid, dedicated it during the diocesan Eucharistic Congress of October 1966.  Like the Prince of Peace Church, the Great Cross celebrates the 400th anniversary of Nombre de Dios and the City of St. Augustine.  This picture was taken in June 2010 from the grounds of Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth.  More to follow on the Great Cross.

The Great Cross of St Augustine

 

 This massive structure is made of stainless steel and rises 208 feet above the marshes of the Matanzas River.  It stands as a sentinel over the Mission of Nombre de Dios and a "Beacon of Faith"  for all who pass it's way. (More on the cross later.)

Florida Flower

Picture was taken while on vacation at Crescent Beach. The flower was in the sand dunes along the path that was taken to get to the beach. I initially thought it was the state flower, but have come to find out it is not, but I still like the appearance of it and wish I had a way to plant some in my yard.
